2023 was... tricky. I had a few serious technological setbacks, derailing productivity - including periods of being completely disconnected from the internet and even cell service.
Add to that a busy schedule, family emergencies, moving, and more....
2024 started in a similar fashion : ( Several urgent, last minute trips, and other things that I don't care to disclose publicly.
If you're waiting to hear from me please be patient (within reason). I'm still getting caught up.
At the same time, if you need to make a decision and move on... I would understand that! Make the best decisions you can for yourself! <3
Thank you! Stay safe and well!

I was a Guest of Honour at Can*Con, and have done panels and workshops at a range of conventions, including FIYAHCON, the SFWA Nebula Conference, World Fantasy, and Worldcon.

Teaching and speaking testimonials
Arley is a down-to-earth presenter and workshop leader, encouraging new and seasoned writers to take their craft to the next level with his knowledge and experience of the publishing industry. We greatly enjoyed having Arley as a workshop presenter and leader for our critique workshop at Cascade Writers.
Arley Sorg was a brilliant guest of honor. Our attendees benefitted from his wisdom and generosity, and he was a joy to work with. Highly recommend him for any size of event.
Arley has proven to be one of our most popular workshop leaders. His mix of knowledge, professionalism, and friendly personality lends him to excel as a teacher and an advocate of literature.
Arley is a dynamic, engaging teacher with an astonishing breadth of knowledge about the craft of writing and the publishing industry. Yet he brings a disarming humility to his workshops and goes above and beyond in answering student questions. Highly recommended.
Arley brings the next level of compassion and professionalism to any event. He's one of those rare individuals who speaks from the heart, and genuinely wants to help others improve their craft, confidence and how they engage with their community.
Arley Sorg wowed my undergraduate students when he visited our Fantasy Fiction class. His knowledge of the SFF field and his insights into both writing and editing made a big impression, as did his warmth and willingness to answer their many questions. Highly recommended as a speaker!
Arley spoke to a teen writing workshop group I teach. His presentation was on writing and publishing... what the talk was really about, though, was the power of connection, courage for the kids to believe in themselves, and to approach their creative work with joy and intention. It was an inspiring and powerful moment for the kids - he spoke with them as a writing peer, and not to them. This is the kind of talk I wish I could have had when I was that age. Thank you, Arley!
Arley taught editor’s week of Clarion West’s virtual Six-Week Workshop in 2023. Clarion West instructors are reading first drafts and are expected to exemplify our workshop values, including equity, community, and centering and empowering authors. We bring editors in to give our students candid feedback representative of what they might receive when pulled from a slush pile. Arley was honest and direct with his feedback, as well as empathetic and familiar with the many challenges emerging writers face, especially marginalized writers. He offered supportive and realistic advice about how to get published, and encouraged our students not to give up after rejection. Students said Arley was “a very kind and astute editor”, “perceptive, precise, and passionate!,” “Illuminating and educational!” and that “he made the mysterious terrifying machinations of publishing feel slightly less distant and horrifying.” When he kindly detoured to visit our 2024 class on his way to another workshop, one student noted: “Despite being fresh off a very long flight, Arley’s genuine enthusiasm for our work and creative careers shone through.”
